Example: Tech/Non-tech collaboration

Client: confidential

The Personal Challenge

An excellent leader of his engineering group had difficulty communicating with his non-technical colleagues resulting in tempers flaring and loss of mutual respect.

Issues addressed

  • Dealing with the fuzzy logic of others
  • Interfacing with non-technical professionals
  • Separating expertise from ego
  • Holding off judgement

Results

The individual learned to recognize that questions and frustrations of non-technical listeners are more often indicators of their discomfort of not understanding rather than their disrespect for his expertise.  He learned how to ask questions himself to test their understanding and to listen to their comments with increased patience.
