Example: Team Assessment
Teams have minds of their own
Assessment allows the team to view itself from the outside and the inside. Results often include shorter meetings, less time spent on team dynamics and a tighter focus on the business.

Approaches:
- One-on-one interviews. I like to start here because it allows me to understand the issues from each team member's perspective before I work with the team as a whole.
- Brief surveys. I design these surveys to confirm a consensus on common issues facing the team, and to identify additional concerns.
- Direct observation. Observation of actual team meetings affords me a deeper understanding of the issues and provides examples for later discussion..
- Records review. Documentation of team processes often reflects how the team operates. These records may include meeting agenda and minutes, business plans, email, and performance management information .
- Facilitated discussions. Sometimes the best assessment data comes from the team itself as it confronts and discussed the issues they face. I facilitate these discussions to keep them fact-based and focused on the issues..
