The Personal Challenge
The long-term goal of an experienced senior manager in a marketing firm was to be a C-level executive but he felt he lacked "executive presence."
Issues addressed
- Internal vs. external presence
- Style vs. substance
- Standing up to pretense
- Confidence in the face of uncertainty
- Accepting imperfection
Results
This person discovered that his perceived need for executive presence reflected his assumption that he lacked certain necessary characteristics more than it reflected reality. As he came to understand that each of these colleagues themselves have significant gaps, and that that is normal, he became willing to accept his own gaps. This increase in his own confidence led to an increase in his executive presence.
