Coaching and the Scientific Mind

The skeptical mind

Professionals in science, technology and engineering are trained to be skeptics. As such, they are often harder to convince of the value of a professional coach than are other clients. They ask tough questions about the coaching process, its outcomes and the underlying assumptions. I appreciate that. It keeps me on my toes.

The inquiring mind

These same professionals are trained to wonder about what is and what might be. They know that the paradigms they value most may also be the ones that hold them back.  They know the value of multiple perspectives. Most importantly, they know how to clarify complex situations through analytic thought. I appreciate these skills. They are what coaching is all about.

Coaching combines skepticism and inquiry

I will encourage you to be skeptical of your assumptions about your professional self, your career and your future. I will also help you to inquire about new directions and new approaches.

The process will help you create new frameworks from which to view your self and your world. The goal is to enable you to be more effective in achieving what you want to achieve.
